Who Am I?

Name Simon Stanton
Age 35
Occupation Trainer for a large UK hospital training staff in computer skills, customer service and management skills.

How come I haven't been looking after my web-site?

Okay - what's my excuse this time? It's been a while since I updated my site!

Well, apart from rescuing my computer from the clutches of bad sectors and expanding swap files I've been running the Wakefield Grovian practise group, I've been going to the Durham Grovian group, the Wakefield and Northallerton NLP groups, finishing my Masters dissertation and doing loads on accelerated learning and IT.

I've sort've gone back to my roots (as it were). I thought - all these memory techniques are great for memorising shopping lists, but can I use them to learn about computers, not just the basics but enough to pass the Microsoft Office User Specialist exam and the Microsoft Certified Professional exam?

Well that's what I've been doing. Haven't taken the exams (yet) but hope to soon. All this will of course be written up and posted here, so keep watching.

And I've been spending quite a bit of time at the cinema - films which have particularly inspired me are:

  • Good Will Hunting
  • Armageddon
  • Lost In Space
  • Titanic
  • Godzilla (well it was fun!)
For details on these check out the Internet Movie Database, an awsome site containing loads of info on all the latest releases, and if you're into special effects check out Visual FX HQ for technical details on computer graphics and special photographic effects.

My partner in crime, Andy Richards, has also been enhancing his site - with some amazing pictures of wolves, tigers and the like.

My Background

Having run my own computer software business for a while I started working as a trainer and customer services specialist for a computer company.
After a (not entirely successful) spell as a salesman I returned to training and now work as training officer for a large UK hospital, responsible for all the IT training and for managing the customer services and much of the management development training.

I am a certified practitioner of NLP and my area of interest is applying NLP to memory and learning skills. I run workshops on making learning fun and enjoyable, teaching learning and memory skills.

Having managed to flunk my first degree I'm now getting A's and B's on a Master's Degree! NLP, particularly applied to learning and memory have helped me greatly, I want to pass on those skills to others.
I didn't enjoy school a great deal but now I'm having great fun learning about marketing, management, training and computer systems. I'd like to share with as many people as possible the skills I've learned and development to help them enjoy learning.

Interests

Here's a quick guide to my hobbies and interests, the plan is to include a set of links here to various sites of interest - but that will have to wait 'till later:
