Review of the meeting of the Northeast Clean Language Practice Group
27th February 1999

I know it's been a while, but here at last is another write up about the activities of the Northeast Clean Language Practice Group.

As has become the norm we met at Alington House in the centre of Durham, just a stone's throw from the Cathedral, and (as has also become the norm) we started the day with a round of coffees and some chit chat. We started by talking about what we knew of David Grove's activities when he's next over here in April.

For more details of David's itinerary and activities check out Penny and James' web-site at The Developing Company.

How do you introduce a client to Clean Language? If someone has never worked this way before are they willing to jumpt straight in? Or might they need to be coached a little?

We talked around the idea of leading someone into using Clean Language rather than expecting them to instantly be familiar with thinking symbolically. It has been my experience that talking about symbols in an almost conversational way, then using the odd Clean Language question and then going into the sing-song voice is an effective way of leading someone from cognitive thinking into symbolic thinking.

We then talked around a whole host of issues regarding Clean Language, how it relates to NLP and some of the similarities of some NLP patterns, how to use cognitive maps (using some examples brought by one of the group) and others.

After lunch the group got down to some practice, but I had to leave at that point...

Next meetings of the Northeast group are at Alington House, Durham on:

Saturday 27th March
Saturday 15th May

The group is open to anyone who has had some training in Clean Language, simply turn up on the day. Please feel free to contact me for further details.

Regards

Simon
