Grovian Metaphor Therapy Practice Group
- Middlesbrough
Meeting - Saturday 5th July 1997
Hi There!
There's nothing better than spending a day with friends,
enjoying each others company, having an enriching and rewarding
learning experience, and feeling happy dropping balls! I'll explain...
With more and more people becoming fascinated by
the possibilities of Grovian Metaphor, practice groups offer a
wonderful opportunity to play and to practice - in safety. It's
a chance to experiment, and to find out "what would happen
if...?"
So what did the Middlesbrough Group play with on
our first meeting?
Caitlin Walker facilitated the meeting getting us
off to a really solid start. Caitlin explained how practice groups
are like juggling (oh no, a metaphor!), the whole point is to
be able to drop the balls and to learn from the experience. There
is no 'getting it right' or 'getting it wrong', it's 'what happens
when I drop my balls?'
 | Our first exercise was limiting us to just two questions "...and what kind of...?" and "...and is there anything else...?"
It is wonderful and moving to experience just how much information is revealed by two simple questions.
|
Another stretch was to then deliberately slow our
voices, and talk as slowly (or even slower) as we could. It was
a powerful demonstration that talking slowly enhances the experience
for the client and ellicits even more information.
Over the day we played with many things, and felt happy and comfortable in dropping as many balls as we could.
Non-verbal entry points can be fascinating - they suddenly bring so much into conscious awareness, yet more to play with.

We're looking forward to having as much fun (dare
I say "more fun"?) at our next meeting, and we extend
a warm welcome to you to join us.
The next meeting is at the TAD Centre, Middlesbrough, England,
on Saturday 30th August 1997. The practice group is
for people who have had at least two days training in Metaphor
Therapy.
